What you get

Front-end work that users can feel immediately

Front-end development covers the interface layer: page structure, navigation, component behavior, responsive layouts, and the visual details that shape trust. It also includes accessibility work so keyboard users, screen reader users, and mobile visitors can use the site without friction.

Back-end work that keeps the site dependable

Back-end development handles the logic behind forms, content systems, databases, APIs, permissions, and deployment. That matters when a site has multiple editors, custom workflows, or systems that need to exchange data without breaking.

Full-stack coordination instead of siloed handoffs

When front-end and back-end decisions are made together, the site is easier to maintain and less likely to break during updates. That matters for migrations, rebrands, ecommerce builds, and platform rebuilds where design, content, and engineering have to move together.

Platform choice based on the work, not the trend

The right stack depends on what the site must do. DoodleWeb works across WordPress, Drupal, Webflow, Shopify, BigCommerce, and React-based builds, so the architecture can follow the business requirement instead of forcing the project into one mold.

Accessibility and search readiness built in

Public-sector and higher-education projects often need WCAG 2.2 AA alignment, and many teams also want better AI search visibility. Strong front-end and back-end work supports both by keeping content clear, pages fast, and structured data easier to manage.

How it works

1
Map the project to the right role split
Start by listing what the site has to do for visitors, editors, and internal systems. If the work is mostly interface, animation, and content presentation, front-end matters most; if it is workflows, integrations, or data handling, back-end becomes the priority.
2
Check whether your stack already narrows the answer
A WordPress or Drupal rebuild, an ecommerce migration, or a React application each shifts the work differently. The platform determines how much time goes into templates, APIs, performance, content modeling, and deployment.
3
Decide whether you need one specialist or a coordinated team
Small fixes can be handled by a single developer, but most launch work needs both disciplines working together. For larger projects, the better question is whether the team can design, build, test, and hand off the system without gaps.
4
Choose based on shipped work, not job titles alone
Ask for examples of real projects, technical decisions, accessibility thinking, and how the team handles maintenance after launch. A capable partner should be able to explain where the front end ends, where the back end begins, and how both support the outcome.

Frequently asked questions

No. Web design sets the structure, content hierarchy, and visual direction; front-end development turns that plan into working code in the browser. They overlap in day-to-day work, but they are different skills and usually different responsibilities.

No. A smaller site can still need back-end work for forms, content management, analytics integrations, membership access, ecommerce, or custom workflows. The size of the site matters less than how much it has to do behind the scenes.

Most redesigns do, especially when the project includes CMS changes, migrations, custom templates, accessibility remediation, or integrations. If the redesign is mostly cosmetic, the balance may lean front-end, but that is less common than many teams expect.

The site may look strong but become expensive to maintain, slow to update, or fragile under real traffic and content changes. That usually leads to more support requests, slower launches, and rework after go-live.

The system may be technically sound, but users will struggle to navigate it, complete tasks, or trust it. For marketing, ecommerce, and public-facing sites, that usually means lower engagement and fewer conversions.

Start with the project risk. If the main concern is user experience, interface quality, or accessibility, lead with front-end expertise. If the main concern is integrations, data, or CMS behavior, lead with back-end expertise.

Sometimes, yes, if the project is small and the person is genuinely experienced across both layers. For larger or higher-stakes work, a coordinated team is safer because it reduces blind spots between design, code, testing, and handoff.

Because many projects need both disciplines working together, even when the final website feels like one product. The label matters less than whether the team can deliver the right mix of interface, logic, performance, and support.
